It
is extremely important that this information be read & understood
by the fabricator and be given to the owner of the vessel (or auto)!!!!!!
•
DO NOT USE RAINEX ON STRATAGLASS!!! It will work well as a water
shed for a period of time, then begin to build up and dull out,
it will also make the surface of the vinyl appear to have an “orange
peel” effect. To increase watershed, use Collinite #845 Insulator
Wax which is also known as CoIlinite #925 Fiberglass Boat Wax (see
below.)
•
DO NOT use cleaners, polishes, scratch removers, etc. that are made
for regular, uncoated vinyl. We recommend only mild boat soap &
water or vinegar & water and the bi-monthly use of Collinite
Insulator Wax (See below for other recommendations, also trouble
shooting section)
•
DO NOT HANDLE STRATAGLASS (OR ANY VINYL) WITH SUNSCREEN ON YOUR
HANDS!!!!! This will permanently cloud the vinyl where handled!!!
General
Maintenance:
When New: It is recommended that Strataglass be
final-cleaned with Aquatech Strataglass Cleaner when installed.
You can use 3-M Adhesive Remover to remove glue left from fabrication.
The Aquatech creates a good watershed for the product, and helps
to eliminate the static cling associated with new vinyl. For
the customer we recommend the use of Collinite
Insulator Wax on a bi-monthly basis (see below) Note: any
vinyl, when new, can easily get impressions in itself. It is recommended
that a new enclosure be LEFT IN PLACE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE WHEN BRAND
NEW. If completely removed, it must be interleaved with either paper
or old sheets to prevent “pooling” in the glass (see
trouble-shooting on web site). The vinyl “seasons” over
time, and becomes less impressionable, and this becomes less of
an issue.
Cleaning:
Rinse thoroughly first, even using your hand to loosen
severe salt buildup, then soap down with a mild boat soap (never
use Simple Green or other harsh cleaners), rinsing immediately as
you go along. Never allow soap to dry on the curtains. As an excellent
alternative, do not use soap on your vinyl, but a solution of vinegar
and water (10 to 1) dissolves salt and neutralizes minerals in the
water supply. Depending on your usage and exposure, we recommend
the bi-monthly waxing of the exterior of the Strataglass with Collinite
Insulator Wax #845. Wash and dry curtains first, then apply
the insulator wax. Avoid application in direct sunlight or when
surface is hot. Collinite is a very durable, clear-coat, safe wax.
It is recommended that the customer wax the inside and outside of
the glass annually and the exterior every other month, or more often
if you are in a particularly bad fallout area, or your curtains
are on a severe angle. NOTE: We do not recommend the use
of any other products, regardless of the manufacturer’s claims!!!!
Restoring:
If perhaps the wrong products were used from the beginning
on Strataglass, or you are experiencing problems from hard water,
high lime content water, etc. you may need a more aggressive
polish. We have found Aquatech Premiere Polish
to work exceptionally well, both in removing “wrong products”
and in providing a beautiful surface to the Strataglass. As an alternative,
3-M Finesse-It, is readily available in marine
stores. Follow this with a thorough waxing with Collinite
Insulator Wax #845, A.K.A. Collinite #925 Fiberglass Boat Wax.
NOTE:
You will not be able to restore the finish if it is severely damaged……..
maintain it with the right product from the beginning.
NOTE:
We do not recommend any other cleaners or polishes-despite many
manufacturers’ claims to the contrary, most will do damage
to Strataglass over time.
Note:
Roll all curtains down and fasten in place nightly to keep perfect
appearance.
