Strataglass™ was originally developed by Brown Burton of Strata Film Coatings for the O.E.M. automotive industry. They were seeking a scratch resistant clear vinyl for convertible tops that would hold up over their extended warranty periods. During the arduous process of first developing a scratch resistant coating, then a machine to apply it to roll vinyl, the industry turned to semi-rigid glass, and Strata Film turned its focus to the marine industry.

Edison Irvine, former V.P. of Sales for PipeWelders Marine, largest producer of custom towers, hardtops and enclosures in the world, was approached to introduce the product to the marine market, and Strataglass made its debut at the 1994 Miami International Boat Show. The response from the industry and the public was overwhelming.

Today, Strataglass is produced 24 hours a day, seven days a week in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and is shipped all over the world. It is distributed by the 13 largest canvas distributors in the U.S. as well as in Canada, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Australia, Japan and even Kuwait. It is the staple of such boat builders as Viking Yacht, Hatteras, Bertram, Carver, Cruisers, Sea Ray, etc. (The list is extensive).

In 2000, Strataglass, Ltd. Introduced Crystal Clear 20/20. Offering the same quality workmanship that our customers have come to expect from our products in a “regular” (uncoated) sheet, Crystal Clear is our low priced alternative to Strataglass. This product is today used by an extensive list of O.E.M. suppliers and boat builders as well.

Strataglass, Ltd. is today the most state of the art laminating facility of its kind, boasting a 100% air conditioned, dust controlled facility, offering a total of 17 varieties of clear vinyls as well as custom contract pressing of virtually any product.
